Yacht Project Jazz Blohm+Voss architect Zaha Hadid design

P
roject Jazz is a highly individual masterpiece created by the renowned architect Zaha Hadid in partnership with the naval engineering team from Blohm+Voss. Bowing and arching elements create an organic form that pushes the boundaries of yacht design, yet is technically feasible and practical for construction and efficient operation. There is a unique continuity between the interior and exterior areas – opening up layered, panoramic views and providing a coherent and monolithic feeling, as if folded from a single surface.

The design concept is based around the sculptural form of a master prototype conceived for a 128m yacht. The Unique Circle Yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss is a family of five individual 90m yachts that creatively explore the design philosophies of the master prototype within the technical requirements of a fully-engineered yacht design.

Words like fluidity and biology make perfect sense here, for the mothership is avant-garde and mould-breaking, quite unlike any boat design before or since. The lattice-like forms that wrap around the mothership’s hull are classic evocations of the forms that have emerged from Hadid’s architecture studio over the past two decades, while the extensive use of composite materials in boat-building offers up endless possibilities for seamless structural shapes.
